Tick Tock
June 24, 2008Time is ticking. When is our baby going to arrive?

There is not long at all to go now.
Within the next couple of weeks we will have a new addition to our family. It is not going to soon enough for Gemma. She is really struggling now with her bump. It is quite difficult to move around now.
Gemma has had a few appointment with the midwife lately to check on the progress of her pregnancy. Everything is going well, with the midwives giving Gemma a clean bill of health. They are predicting that our little boy is going to be a bit bigger than Ellie was when she was born. Not really want Gemma wants to hear.
We are looking forward to his arrival, whenever that may be, and welcoming him into our family.
I am getting quite nervous now, the anticipation of when things are going to kick off is started to get to me now. So many things are going through my head. Will I be with Gemma when she goes into labour? Will I get home from work in time? Will we get to the hospital in time? How will it all go?
So many questions, that will only be answered in the fullness of time.

Four weeks to go now!
That means that the baby could really arrive anytime in the next few weeks. When its put like that the birth is very close. I’m getting quite nervous about it now. You wouldn’t think that we’ve been through this once before.
The pregnancy is getting difficult for Gemma now, lugging her belly around with her, not getting any respite from the weight. Sleeping is now getting any easier either. She just wants it all to be finished now, and get the rewards that come at the end of a pregnancy.
Good news is that the baby is the right way up, meaning head down, which will make things a lot easier when it comes to getting the little lad out.
Looking ahead to the birth, I’m hoping that Gemma goes into labour when I’m at home. I don’t fancy having to leg it back from work. Especially if it all goes as quick as it did with Ellie.
Who knows, maybe my next post on Gemma’s Pregnancy will be the one that says “He’s Here”

There are only 8 weeks left until our new baby boy is born.
Everything is progressing as it should be, as we had confirmed today with an ultrasound scan. It was a growth scan to check that baby was growing as he should be, after a “soft marker” showed up at an earlier scan.
The scan showed that he showed no sign of the hypoechogenic bowel that was previously present, and also that he was on target for the size that he should be at this stage of the pregnancy.
Gemma is getting really uncomfortable with each passing day, having to carry all the extra weight around. It does make things a little difficult, especially sleeping at night. Not long to go now babe. It will all be worth it in the end.
If the extra weight wasn’t enough to stop Gemma sleeping properly, then the leg cramps certainly are. They strike at all hours of the night, which disturbs Gemma’s sleep even more than usual.
Each passing day makes me more and more nervous. It makes me nervous because within the next few weeks labour could start at any time. It’s in the back of my mind that I hope that the labour is not too quick, especially as I work about an hour from home.
You wouldn’t think that we’d done this before.
Till next time …

Previous Pregnancy Posts:
It’s been a couple of weeks since the last update on Gemma’s pregnancy.
There has been some excitement this week, as we went for a private scan. This was mainly as a reassurance aid for Gemma, but it was also a chance to have another look at our baby.
We’d made an appointment at a place called Innervision in Warrington.
Once we were in the scanning room, we were put at ease by the sonographer. He was very chatty, reassuring Gemma, and myself.
First thing that we did was to confirm the sex of the baby that we were having. At one of our previous scans we were told that it was a boy, but the sonographer at the time would not say that she was 100% certain.
This time, there was no uncertainty. The baby is definitely a boy. I would post a photo here, but Gemma has banned me from putting the picture here. She wants to keep it for his 18th birthday party, to show all his friends and possibly a girlfriend.
There was also no sign of the soft marker that had shown itself at the earlier scan, which was a huge relief.
We did get a few other picture, two of which I have posted here.
Until the next update…

The week’s are counting down quickly now.
Its been a few weeks since the last instalment on the pregnancy, so I guess it’s time for an update. To be perfectly honest with you, there is not a huge amount to update you all on.
Gemma’s bump is growing at a rate of knots, which she gets told many times during the day by people. She is a bit conscious of it now, but I think she looks fantastic.
The baby is continuing to give Gemma a good kicking, making life all the more uncomfortable for her. It is certainly giving Gemma a few sleepless periods during the night.
At least Gemma can look forward to starting her Maternity Leave soon. We’ve decided to take it earlier than initially planned as I will be starting my new job in a few weeks. I will be travelling a greater distance to and from work, so it will be a struggle to get back in time for Gemma to go to work. It works out that Gemma can start her Leave on the same day that I start the new job. I’m sure that Gemma won’t be complaining.
It won’t be too long before the little guy appears, and we are both counting down the weeks until that day. It’s very exciting!

Today was a good day for Gemma’s pregnancy.
We had a phone call from the ante-natal clinic, saying that our blood test results were back, and could we pop in and see them.
At our last scan at 18 weeks, the sonographer had spotted a bright area in the bowel of the baby, which is called Hyperechogenic Bowel. This known as a “soft marker” which the sonographer will look for during the scan.
After the scan we had an ante-natal appointment where this condition was discussed. 99% of the time it may not be anything. It could just be that there was a very small bleed within the uterus and the baby has swallowed some of the blood, so this shows up as a bright area. The soft marker could also indicate that there has been some sort of infection, or that there could be a chance that the baby has Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
While we were discussing this, the midwife said that we could do some screening tests to rule out the possibilities. Blood was taken from Gemma and even me (so that they could see if I was a carrier for CF) and sent off for analysis.
Like I’ve already said, we got some good news.
All the tests had come back negative, which was a huge relief to the both of us. So we can carry on looking forward to the birth now. We still have a scan at 32 weeks to double check that everything is progressing as it should.
Apart from the test result there has not been a lot to talk about. The baby is still continuing with his kicking practice in the hope that he’ll be a professional footballer, or something.
Until the next update, bye for now…….

Gemma’s pregnancy has now past the half way stage.
Knowing this makes everything seem all that much closer. The time has flown by since we found out that Gemma was pregnant. It really doesn’t seem that long ago at all. That means that its not long to go until all those sleepless nights again!
There is not huge amounts of news to report at the moment. The baby is kicking a lot more, he must be practising his technique for the football team. Gemma’s bump is expanding quite rapidly now, and she is looking really glowing with it.
I’ve finally managed to scan our latest ultrasound picture from our 18-20 week scan, which you can see now on the right. He is looking a lot bigger now, as you’d expect, and here is what he looked like at 12 weeks.
The other day we went to Mothercare to get a few things for the baby’s bedroom. We got a wall border, curtains and a lightshade, plus a Grobag (sleeping bag, for those not in the know) for the baby to sleep in when he’s big enough. Once we’ve finished transforming our garage, we can finish off the bedroom.
Well, that’s it for now, until my next update.
