Dario Franchitti’s A Lucky Bloke

I came across this story about Dario Franchitti surviving a crash during a race at the Michigan Speedway on the BBC website.

So I headed over to the IRL website to see if there was a video or pics to see what had happened. This is the video that I found.

These pics don’t do justice to the video:

The events start with Franchitti touching wheels with fellow Brit, Dan Wheldon.

This then flips Franchitti and he gets airborne.

Franchitti flies through the air, backwards, and upside down.

After flying through the air he lands on Scott Dixon’s car as he is left with nowhere to go.

In the end there were 7 cars invloved in the pile-up, and thankfully no-one was hurt in the incident.

Incidentally, this was the same car that Franchitti had used to win the Indy500 in May 2007. He had intended to have the car at the end of the season to place at his home in Scotland as a piece of memorabilia.

Team boss Michael Andretti joked, as Franchitti was taken to the medical centre as a precaution, that “you can have it now” (link to story).
